Since its inception, the department has progressed rapidly and is now regarded as one of the premiere departments, with excellent infrastructure and a full-time faculty. The course contents are intended to give the students a holistic and pragmatic view of the present scenario of the Electronics and Communication industry as well as a grounding in the concepts and theories that will shape the future of the industry.
Laboratory
In order to ensure high standards of education for its students, the department has constantly upgraded itself by adding well-equipped and fully furnished laboratories to supplement the theory courses. Old laboratories like the Analog Electronics Lab and the Microprocessor labs have been upgraded with state-of-the-art equipments.
Computing Facilities
Apart from the central computing facility provided by the college, the computing facility of the Department consists of a state-of-the-art network of computers running on Windows platform. The lab is able to support a strength of 60 students.
Department Library
The department library has over 1500 volumes of technical literature, in addition to training material on Central service examinations, GATE and other competitive exams. The digital library hosts a copious collection of e-books on technical subjects. The library is open to all students of the college from 9 am to 5.30 pm on all working days. Books are issued to the students and staff for a period of 15 days.
Professional Technical Associations
The department is associated with other professional technical associations and societies namely IEEE, ISTE and IETE, which give the students to improve and update their technical knowledge and personality development.
Consultancy Services
Consultancy activities have taken the form of Pre / Mid-term / Final assessments relating to disbursal of funds on behalf of CAPART, Dharwad (DST, Govt. of India) to NGO’s based at several parts of Kerala. The dept. has also provided testing assistance for luminaries and estimation services for electrification of public constructions respectively for Erumely Gram Panchayath.
ECE Association
The Association consists of all faculty members in the department as well as all students of 2nd, 3rd and 4th years of the branch. This association serves as a forum for the students to interact with the real time industrial situations. Guest lectures and seminars are arranged regularly by this association and its members are greatly benefited. The Association encourages students to prove their worth through the annual technical and cultural festival “ASEATIC”. Association was the first that came up with the branch magazine “ZEALOUS”.
NBA Accreditation
The National Board of Accreditation (NBA) aims to achieve standards at par with programmes offered in institutions offered across USA and Europe, by introducing a quality auditing system and establishing datum for measuring the quality and excellence in technical education. The NBA periodically evaluates the technical institutions and programs on the basis of guidelines, norms and standards.
The accreditation exercise is designed to be rigorous with several inputs such as quality of teaching, level of research, faculty expertise, evaluation of teachers, standard of infrastructure available in the campus, such as hostel facility, library, medical facility etc. These are taken into consideration in order to help the visiting accreditation team of experts arrive at a rational evaluation.
The Electronics & Communication department is among the two departments of the institution with the Accreditation. Only a handful of colleges in Kerala have attained this recognition.
Research & Development
Apart from teaching, the faculty members and student members have been vigorously pursuing research and development in the college. In this aspect papers have been published in few national Journals of repute as well as in prestigious conferences. The students of the department, was successful in obtaining outstanding positions in various National Level project contest like TechTop, Telegraph Knowhow Innovation Hub Calcutta and so on.
Intelligent Light Dimmer, Solar irrigation system, Elephant restraint system , Electronic wheel chair for physically disabled persons are a few among the many student projects that have been well covered in the media for their genuinely and usefulness to the society.
One of the students project was successful in obtaining a financial grant of more than 2 lakh from KSCSTE, an autonomous body to encourage and promote Science and Technology related activities in the Kerala State.
Placement
The department has seen excellent placements record, both in public and private sector corporations, including HCL, Wipro, DRDO and BHEL. A large number of students have gone abroad to pursue higher studies, and many have consistently secured admissions in prestigious institutes of India over the years, to pursue higher studies.
In-house Project & Training
The major and minor projects related to the course in done in the form of in-house projects. The students are taking up IEEE papers as their base for their major projects. Many faculties are mentors for various projects done in other engineering collages. To meet the current demands, the department organizes various training programmes, inviting eminent personalities in the field to take sessions.
