Welcome to the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally.

Welcome to the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirappally. The Metallurgical & Materials Engineering Department started in 2012 and the B.Tech. programme offers a comprehensive fundamental education in metallurgical engineering. There is an intake of 60 students for B.Tech course per year. Amal Jyothi College of Engineering is the only college in Kerala offering this unique branch of engineering.

Since three-fourths of all chemical elements are metals, virtually you will be able to produce materials for every other engineering application. As for a metallurgical engineering student, the programme provide an understanding of how metals are extracted from their ores, how they behave under various temperature and environmental conditions, and how they can be alloyed to improve certain specific properties for the development of new products and the explanations of new scientific phenomena observed in metals and alloys. Laboratory facilities include (i) Heat treatment lab, (ii) Metallography lab with optical microscopes equipped with digital image analyser, (iii) Mechanical testing lab with screw driven universal tensile testing machine, fatigue testing machine and various hardness testing machines, (iv) Welding lab with equipments for various types of metal joining. Foundry, Metal forming, Corrosion and NDT labs are planned for higher semesters.

The metallurgy faculties have expertise in physical, mechanical and welding metallurgy. With the experimental facilities available with us, students and faculty members are encouraged for quality and innovation in their research activities in ferrous and non-ferrous alloys and composite materials, consultancy, failure analysis etc.

Our laboratory is open to faculty and students of other institutions as well, to pursue their research interest in Metallurgy and Material Science.
