Overview

A New Chapter in Road Safety Education

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (Automobile) at AJCE is proud to host an IDTR Extension Centre on campus — making AJCE one of the select engineering institutions in Kerala entrusted with this prestigious mandate.

The Institute of Driver Training and Research (IDTR) Kerala, operating under the Motor Vehicle Department, Government of Kerala, was established with financial assistance from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Government of India, as part of a national road safety initiative. AJCE has partnered with IDTR Kerala to serve as an authorised extension centre, bringing scientifically designed driver training and road safety education to the heart of Kottayam district.

Why It Matters

Significance of This Initiative

Road Safety First

Kerala records among the highest road accident rates nationally. This centre directly addresses that by training drivers, instructors, and enforcement officers in the Kottayam region.

Academia–Government Partnership

A landmark collaboration between AJCE and the Kerala Motor Vehicle Department, demonstrating how engineering institutions can serve the broader public good.

International Standards

IDTR's curriculum is aligned with international norms for driver training, bringing global best practices in road safety education to the local community.

Infrastructure Utilisation

AJCE's modern classrooms, automotive labs, and vehicular access provide an ideal environment for hands-on, practical driver training programmes.

Local Accessibility

By hosting an extension centre, AJCE eliminates the need for participants in Kottayam and surrounding districts to travel to the main IDTR campus in Malappuram.

Student Opportunities

Engineering students gain exposure to real-world road transport challenges, opening avenues for projects, internships, and research in transport safety and policy.
