Department Highlights

  • Faculty members of the department are largely involved in research activities in the fields of Renewable Energy, Materials Science, Manufacturing and Design
  • Most of the research activities are funded by state government agencies like Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), Kerala Technological University (KTU), Centre for Disability Studies, Energy Management Centre and Indian Space Research Organization. Apart from these, faculty along with student groups apply for in house research funding under the banner of Innovation Ideas Unleashed (I2U) scheme, which is facilitated by Amal Jyothi Scholar’s Community for Inspiring Innovation (ASCII) and funded by the Institute.
  • The research activities have resulted in generation of high quality publications in journals published by Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis and IEEE.
  • The faculty members are also involved in publication of book chapters and materials that can be very well utilized for academic as well as research references.
  • Apart from these activities, as part of technological updation and knowledge enhancement, faculty always find time to attend summer fellowships, training programmes etc. on the latest trends in their domain as well as inter disciplinary topics so that more effective research can be carried out. Department also encourages faculty to do doctoral research in reputed institutions, so that quality of research and education can thus be improved in future.
  • The Department has also taken active role in the establishment of Additive Manufacturing Zone, which is a state of the art additive manufacturing facility for student projects and extensive research.
  • The Department have research facilities for Cryogenic Treatment of Engineering Materials
  • Department is one of the coordinating and beneficiary member for the implementation of "Fund for Improvement of S&T infrastructure in universities & higher educational institutions (FIST) project support from Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi worth Rs. Sixty Lakhs at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering.
  • Faculty and Students won many prizes in various competition conducted by various colleges and External agencies like KCSTE, TEKON, IE, KSUM, EMC, LEAP EDTECH, MSJE etc
  • Department Association (AME) is a body that includes both students and faculty of the institute, which strives to create platforms for knowledge and experience sharing thereby benefiting the participants, irrespective of the domain, to stay updated with the advancements in the technological as well as non – technological areas.
  • The faculty are actively involved as mentors for activities of professional societies like IE, ISTE ASME, SAE etc. for organizing and conducting academic as well as research facilitating programmes.
  • The 8th Annual International Conference on Emerging Research Areas –AICERA 2019 was successfully co-ordinated by Mechanical Engineering Department in association with CE, EEE, ECE, ME(AU). The conference was held in collaboration with Taylor and Francis publisher in association with Kerala State Council for science, technology and environment and Astreq.
  • Safety club in association with Mechanical Department organised a workshop on “Safety and Disaster Management” for the benefit of students. The workshop was handled by Fire Station Officer and team from Fire and Rescue office, Kanjirappally.
  • Mechanical Department Co-ordinated for organising SPACE EXPO-2017 along with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre(LPSC), with support of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) at the college campus at Kanjirappally.
  • Detroit 2019 Tech Fest conducted by the department on 9 and 10 November 2018.
Innovations by the faculty in Teaching and Learning
  • Apart from the normal teaching-learning experience taught in classrooms following innovative learning methods are initiated and implemented by the faculty for the students to acquire the subject knowledge in a better method.
  • Use of modern teaching aids like LCD projectors, Internet enabled computer systems, Wi-Fi enabled laptops are usually employed in all classrooms and other student learning environments.
  • Expert video subject lectures delivered by the various eminent resource persons are available in the digital library and it facilitates the faculty and students to utilize E- Tutorials of NPTEL, access E-Journals, Video Conference room, etc.
  • 3D demonstrative models of I.C engines cut section, pantograph, Heat exchanger, scotch yoke mechanism, whitworth quick return mechanism, Gyroscope, solid primitives etc. were shown to the students during their lecture class so that they can observe features on 3D objects that are more difficult to visualize on paper or other 2D formats
  • Development of working models through Design project, 3D printing etc. provide an environment for interactive student engagement improvement in student quantitative skills such as graphing, graphical analysis, and visualization.
  • To develop effective communication skills among students, department organizes workshops and seminars by eminent professionals in their respective areas in which the student community and faculty actively participate to reap their benefits. Seminars also help them to convey their own ideas to their friends and teachers.
  • Career guidance and motivational lectures by Alumni, External guests and Faculty are organized
  • After completing the lecture in the class, tutorials were given to the students for problematic subject in order to better understand the content of the lecture or problems. It is interactive and specific than a book or a lecture.
  • Monogram plays a major role for most teachers and students in defining goals and procedures for laboratory activities and drawings. It is also supposed to help focus observations and the development of inferences, explanations, and other activities in laboratory investigation. Monograms developed by our faculties for all the labs and drawing subjects.
  • Guest speakers enhance the educational experience of the students. Through professional bodies ISTE, IE many guest lectures were arranged, Moreover, it is a great way for the students to get maximum exposure as guest speakers talk about their real life experiences and not what is there in the textbooks.
  • The goal is to build a collective body of knowledge, learning groups strive to create openly shared.
  • The faculty members are advised to attend FDPs aimed at increasing their knowledge and skills. Several programs are conducted for students with the same objective. Educational and industrial tours are also conducted by the college.
